Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit
Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Float may be required to units of similar or lower acuity as needed
- Charting system: EPIC (experience with EPIC is a hard stop requirement)
- Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius
Facility Highlights
- 352 certified beds
- Level II Trauma Center and Level II Stroke Center
- Multiple hospital and area clinics offering urgent, primary, specialty, and emergency care
- Only tertiary hospital between Kansas City and Omaha
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within the last 12 months (not required annually)
- Fit mask testing completed onsite at orientation
- Negative TB test (PPD, Q-Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start, updated annually; additional requirements if positive TB history
- Immunizations or proof of immunity (2 doses or positive titer or declination accepted) for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or declination accepted; vaccination series must be completed on schedule if started prior to start date
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season or agency-approved medical/religious exemption with mask-wearing requirement
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes multiple substances)
Documentation and Compliance
- Background checks within 30 days of start including:
- National criminal check
- State and county searches for 10 years of all addresses and aliases
- SSN trace with aliases
- National Sex Offender check
- FACIS Level 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification with official transcript or diploma including graduation date
- Missouri EDL Search required within 30 days of start
- Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Employment application, skills checklist, work history verification, and 2 professional references within 3 years required
- Facility-specific documents to review and sign including confidentiality agreement, code of conduct, and orientation quiz (minimum 84% score)
- Annual acknowledgment of pass/fail testing policies and safety manual
Additional Notes
- Onsite AVADE training required for RN candidates in certain units if extending past initial contract; includes online pre-work and in-person skills validation
- Candidates must be fully prepared to sign contract upon offer
