Description
Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
Call Requirement: None
Unit and Patient Population
- 46-bed surgical unit
- Patient population includes trauma surgery, post-bariatric surgery, post-abdominal surgery, post-amputation surgery, urological issues
- Also accepts medically and cardiac overflow patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5-6; can increase to 1:7 during call-ins
- New travelers onboarded weekly to help reduce workload
- Patient charting done in Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Candidate Requirements
- Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (locals not accepted)
- Prior travel experience is not required
Background and Compliance
- Background check required within 90 days of start, covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Employment application required
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam required (Aya Physician Statement form)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or Q-gold accepted; T-spot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of assignment start (specific mask types accepted; PAPR training available if fit test not passed)
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine or opiates)
- Flu vaccine required prior to start or approved medical/religious exemption (documentation must be on file by December 15)
- Immunization or titer documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B
Additional Notes
- Facility requires a clear, passport-style photo for badge issuance
- Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement must be completed prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific online modules (approx. 8-10 hours) required before start date; modules due by Friday 1:00 PM CST before assignment start
- Modules are paid hours and not required for candidates who have worked at the facility within the past year or for extensions/agency flips
This position offers guaranteed 36 hours per week on a night shift schedule in a busy surgical telemetry unit with a diverse patient population. It is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable with variable nurse-to-patient ratios and working every other weekend and holiday shifts.
