Description

Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry (Night Shift)

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Nights, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours


Job Overview

  • Unit: 5 East – Oncology/MedSurg/Telemetry & Vascular Access
  • Patient ratio: 1:7
  • Schedule includes nights, weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, and holidays within contract
  • Overtime available after 48 hours worked
  • Facility cannot accommodate blocked schedule requests on this unit
  • Must be proficient in EPIC electronic health record system (no exceptions)
  • Required skills: IV start, telemetry interpretation

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Proficient in Epic electronic health record system
  • IV start capability
  • Acknowledgement of Orientation Safety Manual
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing requirements
  • Successful completion of Pass/Fail Testing for EKG and Medication competencies

Background and Screening Requirements

  • Zero tolerance for any license or background hits; candidates with any hits will be disqualified
  • 7-year criminal background check required within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal
  • Fingerprinting required via Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check (VSP)
  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
  • Proof of diploma or transcript required (highest degree obtained)
  • Complete facility-specific forms including job description, Pyxis acknowledgment, and traveler information grid within required timeframes

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Fit test for any N95 mask within 1 year of start, updated annually (PAPR not allowed)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year of start; if history of positive TB, additional documentation required
  • Required immunizations or titers within 10 years:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination)
    • Varicella (declination allowed except for Mother Baby or infant/peds specialties)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within past 10 years for certain units (not applicable here)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually by October 31 or approved medical/religious exemption with mask requirement
  • COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required; documentation collected if available
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility to be considered
  • Passport-style photo (shoulders up, front facing, plain background) required before start
  • Pass/fail EKG test at orientation with only one attempt allowed; no study guide provided
  • Facility requires acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing for cardiac monitor competency
  • No blocked schedules allowed on this unit; candidates must indicate shift preference (3x12 or 4x12) when applying
