Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Float to units of similar or lower acuity may be required.
• Surgical Stepdown unit assignment.
• Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius at a reduced rate.
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).
• Charting system: EPIC.
• Parking: Free.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri.
• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Required Background and Documentation

• Background check within 30 days of start including:

  • National criminal check, state and county searches (10 years), SSN trace, national sex offender check, FACIS Level 3.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Education verification with official transcript or diploma including graduation date.
• Missouri EDL Search within 30 days of start.
• Employment application and verification of most recent employer.
• Two professional references within 3 years of start.
• Skills checklist and confidentiality/code of conduct acknowledgements.

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within the last 12 months (not required annually).
• Fit mask testing completed onsite at orientation.
• Negative TB test (PPD, Q-Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 6 months and annual TB questionnaire required.
• Immunizations or documented immunity/declination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer).
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination).
  • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination).
• Drug screen within 30 days of start covering a comprehensive panel.
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season or agency-approved medical/religious exemption with mask-wearing mandate.

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing policies.
• Completion of agency nurse orientation quiz with a minimum score of 84%.
• AVADE training (onsite skills validation) required if extending past initial contract for certain units; includes online pre-work and in-person session.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level II Trauma and Stroke Center hospital with a tertiary care setting between Kansas City and Omaha.
