Shift Details

• 4 shifts of 12 hours each per week
• Rotating day and night shifts (07:00-19:00 / 19:00-07:00)
• Every other weekend required

Unit Description

• Acute Stroke Unit with 39 beds
• Care for acute stroke patients, neurological disorders, and acute medical patients
• Uses an adjustable acuity delivery of care model focused on evidence-based stroke care

Patient Ratio

• Must be able to manage a patient ratio between 1:5 and 1:7 on MedSurg

Floating

• Floating to other units is required

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Telemetry experience of at least 1 year, including experience within the last year
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Candidate Requirements

• Must live within a 75-mile radius of Rochester, NY (locals accepted)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Prior travel experience is not required

Health and Compliance Requirements (must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)

• Physical exam (within 1 year)
• Fit mask test (annual)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
• Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background and Verification

• 7-year criminal background check (felony checks included)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
• Education verification from primary source required
• Employment verification of at least 2 past employments
• References required for some candidates (2 references within 3 years)

Additional Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID required
• State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
• Color blindness testing required once

This position offers the opportunity to work in a tertiary care hospital setting with a focus on acute neurological and medical patient care in a specialized stroke unit.
