Registered Nurse (Float Pool - MedSurg/Telemetry/Stepdown)
Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights

Job Overview
- Float Pool RNs will rotate between MedSurg/Telemetry units and Stepdown units.
- Units include MedSurg (1W, 2E), Stepdown (3W), IRU (Rehab), and ED Holding (inpatient MedSurg or Stepdown patients).
- Floating may also include ICU as helping hands.
Unit Details
MedSurg Units (1W & 2E)
- Beds: 1W (28 private beds), 2E (29 private beds including 2N & 2S areas)
- Patient Types: Post-surgical, orthopedic, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, low volume inpatient chemo, COVID patients (both 'clean' and 'dirty' hallways)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
- Certifications Required: BLS only
- Drips: Heparin and possibly MSO4 for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
- Ventilation: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow (managed by Respiratory Therapy)
- Telemetry: Remote monitoring by monitor tech; no direct nurse monitoring of strips
- Staffing: 2 CNAs on day shifts, none at night
- Scheduling: 12-hour shifts (7a-7:30p; 7p-7:30a), self-scheduling allowed with blocked schedules
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun), plus 2 Fridays per schedule (often Fri/Sat/Sun grouped)
- Orientation: 1 shift with preceptor
- Scrub Color: Navy blue (jackets must also be navy blue if worn)
Telemetry/Stepdown Unit (3W)
- Beds: 28 private beds
- Patient Types: Heavy cardiac cases (dysrhythmias, CVAs), mix of patients downgraded from ICU
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (compared to 1:6 on MedSurg)
- Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Drips: Must titrate Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin; insulin only set-rate; no sedation drips
- Ventilation: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow
- Telemetry: Nurses must read and interpret strips; unit serves as central monitor station for hospital
- Staffing: 2 CNAs during day and mid shifts; no CNAs after 11pm
- Support: Hospitalist in-house 24/7; Intensivist 7a-7p daily and on-call nights; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Scheduling: 12-hour shifts (7a-7:30p; 7p-7:30a), block scheduling allowed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri/Sat/Sun)
- Orientation: 2 shifts with preceptor
- Scrub Color: Navy blue (jackets must also be navy blue if worn)
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license for Pennsylvania
- BLS certification (required for all units)
- ACLS and NIHSS certifications (required for Telemetry/Stepdown unit)
- Comfortable caring for COVID-positive patients in MedSurg unit (may be assigned to both 'clean' and 'dirty' hallways simultaneously)
- Ability to titrate multiple drips on Telemetry/Stepdown unit
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips on Telemetry/Stepdown unit
Additional Information
- Nurse managers and charge nurses vary by shift; resource nurse on MedSurg nights takes full patient assignment
- No dedicated IV team; ICU charge nurses or director available for difficult IV sticks
- Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are supported as long as unit needs are met
- Participation in permanent staff holiday rotation required
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
