Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
- Average daily census: 70-80 patients
- Unit: Core 3 & 4 (includes General, Plastic, Gynecology, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Ortho, GU, Colorectal Robotics)
- Facility type: Short-Term Acute Care
- Scrub color provided
- Charting system: Cerner

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Scrub required
Licensure & Certifications
- Indiana RN license (or compact/temp license) must be active at start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Other certifications may be required depending on cost center (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, CHEMO, NIH Stroke Certification) – verify as applicable
- Background checks required within 30-90 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport required (clear copy)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (3M N95 or approved respirators)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Rubeola (Measles): positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Mumps: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (includes amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) required with minimum 100% score
Additional Requirements
- Must provide minimum 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge nurses, managers, supervisors, or above
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and updated annually
- Must complete facility-specific compliance, confidentiality, orientation, and policy forms prior to start
- Mandatory completion of any required facility-specific training modules before orientation (if applicable)
Notes
- Locals accepted; travelers residing in Indiana may have a rate adjustment (not included here)
- Pending licenses accepted if valid Indiana, compact, or temporary license is active at start
- Perioperative/OR RNs and certain allied/ambulatory RN travelers are exempt from restrictions preventing Indiana RNs from working at the facility after 11/30/2024
- Floating to other units within scope is expected, excluding cardiovascular and transplant areas
This position offers a challenging and diverse OR nursing experience in a Level I Trauma facility with a variety of surgical specialties and a supportive acute care environment.
