Description
Registered Nurse – Telemetry Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Newport News, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Description
- 54-bed Cardiovascular telemetry unit divided into three 18-bed wings
- Cardiovascular Telemetry (CVT) patients also cared for in Overflow unit
- Flexible scheduling preferred
- Every other weekend required, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights
- Holiday shifts may be required during assignment
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year telemetry experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Valid driver’s license required for Home Health & Hospice positions (not applicable here)
- Background check: 7-year criminal history check within the last year, updated annually
- Fingerprinting: Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check results required starting 7/15/2025 (for tracking)
- Physical exam within last 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility policy, updated as required
- Drug screen within last 12 months
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or facility-specific declination
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required during flu season (10/1–3/31) unless approved medical or religious exemption
- COVID vaccine series preferred; declination form accepted if no vaccine records available
- Photo for badge: Recent, professional headshot meeting facility specifications
- Facility-specific agreements and policies to be reviewed and signed prior to start (confidentiality, dress code, safety, drug-free policy, hand hygiene)
- Stroke education CEUs required annually (via Relias) with hours depending on unit type (6 hours for ICU/Neuro ICU/MICU/Step down; 4 hours for ER/PACU/Interventional; 1 hour for Med Surg/Labor and Delivery)
- Pass/fail testing (e.g., EKG/medication competency) administered during orientation
- Medication and competency exams required within one year of start date
- 2 professional references required
- Employment application/resume required

- Orientation includes computer-based learning with multiple attempts allowed for passing
- Scheduling flexibility and weekend/night availability are critical for this role
