Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)

Job Description
- Provide nursing care on Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units.
- Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
- Manage and interpret dysrhythmias; use Rapid Response Teams.
- Care includes peripheral line management, oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks), non-invasive airway management, and isolation precautions.
- Patient diagnoses commonly include cardiac disease, stroke, infection, pain, and pulmonary embolism.
- Float assignments may include Medical-Surgical, Emergency Department, ICU (stable patients), and acute brain injury units (stable patients).
- Patient-to-nurse ratios:
- Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch up to 6-7)
- Night: 6-7:1 (stretch up to 8-10 if staff calls in)
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
- Use of special equipment such as bladder scanners, telemetry monitors, EKG machines, and defibrillators (Lifepacks).
- Navy blue or white scrubs required.
- Every other weekend work required.
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
- Experience in Emergency Department (ED) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) settings
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Work Environment & Additional Information
- Float assignments may require flexibility across multiple units.
- Use of rapid response teams and management of acute cardiac and neurological conditions.
- Patient acuity includes cardiac disease, stroke, pulmonary embolism, and infections.
- Facility uses specialized equipment including telemetry monitors and Lifepacks.
- Staffing ratios may stretch during call-ins or high census.
- Block scheduling may be considered but is not guaranteed.
