Registered Nurse - PACU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (12:00 PM - 10:30 PM)
  • Call Requirement: 2 weekend call shifts per month (total 4 shifts including 2 weeknights when requested)
  • Skills Required:
    • Phase I PACU
    • Phase II Recovery
    • Endoscopy/Laparoscopic procedures
    • General Surgery
    • Orthopedics (including Spine and Total Joints)
  • Competency: Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement
  • First Time Traveler: Accepted
  • Local Candidates: Must live more than 75 miles from the facility

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
  • Minimum 1 year of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Competency in phlebotomy

Facility & Work Environment

  • Short term acute care hospital
  • Teaching facility
  • Total staffed beds: 471
  • Scrubs provided (color: teal)
  • Electronic charting system: Epic

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year)
  • Fit mask test (annual) with acceptable mask types specified
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees accepted)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
  • Transcript/diploma required if no education verification on file
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • References (2 within last 3 years) required for Aya direct candidates
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
  • State-specific checks including NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable), criminal background fingerprinting (for certain units), disciplinary action search, sex offender registry, and Medicaid exclusion list

Notes

  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Facility will provide login credentials for mandatory online modules prior to start
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all onboarding and compliance requirements promptly to avoid delays

This position offers a structured travel contract opportunity for RNs with PACU experience seeking short-term assignments in a well-equipped acute care setting.
