Job Details
- Unit: Neuro ICU
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- On-call: Not required

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU nursing experience, with Neuro ICU experience within the last year
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Background Checks
- 7-year criminal background check (including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, federal, and extended checks) within 12 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Verification of highest level of education required
- Sex offender search required
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 85% passing score) within 12 months of start
- Color Blind Testing (minimum 80% passing score) required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for ICU nurses (not required for NICU or Behavioral Health)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually (clean shaven required for fit testing)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (various acceptable test types)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella (or documented history/vaccines)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum (declination accepted)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 – 3/31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not required

- CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health) – annual update required
- New Employee Orientation Module (copy required by end of first day)
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)
Employment History and References
- Must provide 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required (attestations not accepted)
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU (CTICU) assignments (charge nurse references not accepted)
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required attestations and training modules, often via electronic signature
- Pending licenses accepted with conditions
- Return-to-Orientation (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
