ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Saint Louis, Missouri
Position Details
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Floating: May float within ICU service line as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; home must be at least 75 miles from facility
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
Unit & Patient Population
- Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Units
- Patient Diagnoses include:
- Respiratory failure/ARDS
- Acute chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest
- Stroke
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Multi-organ failure
- Sepsis
- Care for pre/post-op cardiac, thoracic, abdominal surgeries, medicine and neuro-medicine overflow, pre/post-transplant, end of life, and organ donation patients
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience and skills in Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Management of dysrhythmias
- Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Central Venous Pressure (CVP) monitoring
- Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- Arterial line management
- Central line care and management
- Continuous IV sedation administration
- Titration of vasoactive drips
- Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)/Acute Stroke management
- Ventilator management
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only
- National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification (annual update required)
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., Trauma Nursing Core Course for Burn ICU extensions)
Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri (Primary Source Verification required via NURSYS)
- Temporary licenses accepted with facility approval
- Pending licenses accepted
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including:
- Statewide searches
- MO State Highway Patrol check
- Nationwide and sex offender registry
- International checks if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (10-year renewal)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with yearly TB questionnaire
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
Additional Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams including dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must be completed for each new contract)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
- Employment application and references (two professional references preferred within last year)
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approximately 16 hours) through online platform
- Compliance with facility policies including hand hygiene, dress code, fingernail policy, confidentiality, and HIPAA acknowledgment
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)
