Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Start: ASAP
  • Shift: Flexible, preferred 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (4x10 hour shifts, 40 hours/week)
  • Call Coverage: Required to cover 2 call shifts per month
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrubs Provided

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience in Orthopedics, Neurology, and Trauma nursing required
  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Operating Room

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current RN license (Primary source verification required)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, as required
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as required
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required if assigned to ICU

Background & Screening Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
  • 7-year criminal background check within one year of start, updated annually
  • Background check within 30 days of start (including international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start, including confirmation values for a comprehensive panel
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Performance and internal evaluations if previously worked over 1 or 2 years with the agency

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Initial physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGold or T-Spot within 6 months, updated annually)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Hepatitis B: titer and vaccination series or declination form required
  • Hepatitis A Total Antibody within 6 months
  • Hepatitis C antibody within 6 months; if positive, follow-up RNA PCR testing required
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required annually (medical or religious exemptions must be approved)
  • COVID-19 seasonal vaccine required; declination form required if opting out
  • Onsite N95 fit testing; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit test

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of orientation, annual education, confidentiality agreement, and respiratory protection policy prior to start
  • Facility-specific modules assigned via HealthStream must be completed within one week of start
  • Creation of facility-specific account required for clock-in
  • Submission of religious or medical exemption forms for flu and COVID vaccines must be approved prior to start
  • TB screening questionnaire and hepatitis B declination form must be submitted if applicable

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in West Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Strong experience in Orthopedics, Neurology, and Trauma nursing

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Call coverage involves 2 shifts per month
  • Facility is a regional academic medical center with 303 beds, serving multiple counties in WV, KY, and OH
