Job Opportunity: House Supervisor (Registered Nurse)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Lead in-house supervisor responsible for overseeing 311+ beds including Emergency Department, Family Birth Place, Surgical Services, 14 medical-surgical units, and a 20-bed ICU.
- ICU charge nurses and providers serve as Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Code Team with supervisor support.
- Centralized staffing office with coordinators covering 80 hours/week.
- Off-shift nurse manager supports building 4 shifts per week (4p-2a).
- Shifts available: 8a-4p, 4p-12a, or 12a-8a (8-hour shifts).
- Supervisors cover Monday-Thursday 4p-8a, and Friday-Sunday plus holidays 24/7 coverage.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of inpatient acute care experience.
- Minimum 1 year of manager experience within the last year, including House Supervisor experience.
- At least one completed travel nursing assignment.
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience in code management, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.
- Experience managing narcotic diversion.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements including Department of Public Health (DPH), The Joint Commission (TJC), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Experience with centralized staffing coordination.
- Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system.
Candidate Requirements
- Must live more than 75 miles from the facility (locals not accepted).
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this unit.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background checks required: 7-year criminal background check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable.
- Primary source verification of state nursing license within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days for RN license.
- Health requirements must be completed within 5 days of contract signing, including:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually).
- Fit mask test (annual).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year).
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required (for direct hire candidates).
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Work history verification required (at least 2 past employments).
Additional Information
- Facility-specific documents and attestations must be completed as part of onboarding.
- Some units may require fingerprinting and additional state-specific background checks.
- NIH Stroke Certification required for all RNs except those working in birthing units and OR.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required as per specialty.
- Color blindness testing required once.
Work Schedule
- 40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts.
- Shift options: Day (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM), Evening (4:00 PM - 12:00 AM), Night (12:00 AM - 8:00 AM).
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with leadership skills in acute care settings who are ready to take on a supervisory role in a large hospital environment.
