Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Night Shift)

Schedule
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Guaranteed hours
- Orientation: Virtual on Friday, onsite starting Monday
- Floating: Will cross-train and float within scope to other campuses and ED observation units (excluding trauma/rescue rooms, triage, and locked behavioral health units)
Unit & Patient Care
- Emergency Department (ED)
- Level 1 Trauma Center
- Patient Ratios: Average 1:6 (days and nights)
- Assigned primarily to one campus with possible rotation to others
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with ED experience within the last year
- Current certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Trauma experience
On-Call and Scheduling Policies
- No on-call requirement
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
- Block scheduling accommodations available
- Weekend call-out policy includes mandatory makeup shifts within 6 weeks
Orientation and Training Requirements
- Virtual orientation on Friday before onsite start
- Multiple mandatory training modules and attestations required, including but not limited to:

- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain campuses)
- Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
- eCart Training Module (except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (N95 or equivalent)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation as applicable
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred
Background and Employment History
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required (attestations not accepted)
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU; for other units, standard reference requirements apply
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, including multiple national and state-level checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required; foreign equivalency reports accepted from approved agencies for internationally educated candidates
- Transcript required if education verification cannot be completed
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles (not applicable for RN ED)
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months, minimum passing score 85%
- Color Blind Testing required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, minimum passing score 80%
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for RNs in Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER/ED, ICU, Progressive Care, Stepdown, PACU, IR/Cath, Labor and Delivery units (not required for NICU, Psych/Behavioral Health, Pediatric, Ambulatory units)
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with trauma experience, seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment with a structured orientation and comprehensive training requirements.
