Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardio Thoracic ICU

Shift Details
- Night shift (3 shifts per week)
- Shift hours: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
- Guaranteed hours: Yes
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Unit and Patient Care
- Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU)
- High acuity cardiac ICU
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
- Must be proficient with Swan-Ganz monitoring
- Floating required within scope to other high-volume cardiac ICUs
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiac ICU experience (or Cardio Thoracic ICU experience)
- First-time travel nurses accepted if they meet the experience requirement
Required Certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA or ARC only
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC only
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Connecticut
- Pending license accepted with approval process
- Primary source license verification required within 30 days of start
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start (including SSN trace, national sex offender, federal and state checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required; foreign equivalency reports accepted from approved agencies for internationally educated candidates
- Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps greater than 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- One supervisor reference within the past year specifically for Cardio Thoracic ICU (charge nurse references not accepted)
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color Blind Testing (minimum 80% score; required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU RNs
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually; clean-shaven required for fit testing
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (various accepted tests, no annual update required unless positive history)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not required
- Immunization or titer proof for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with options for declination or exemptions as applicable)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for certain specialties (not required)
Facility-Specific Training and Attestations (must be completed, often via online modules)
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers and Behavioral Health/Psych/Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)
Additional Notes
- No on-call requirement
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Charting system: Epic

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) experience, including experience within the last year
