Pediatric OR Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM (4 shifts per week, 9.5 hours each)
  • On-Call: Required; varies between 1-3 call shifts per 4-week schedule, including nights (7 PM – 7 AM) and weekends (7 AM – 7 PM, 7 PM – 7 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, varies month to month
  • Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes
  • Start Date: ASAP

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including Pediatric OR experience
  • OR experience within the last year required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Prior travel experience in Pediatric OR preferred (first-time travelers not accepted)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and others as applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: Highest level of education verified; foreign equivalency reports required for internationally educated candidates
  • References: One supervisor reference within the past year required for ICU specialties; otherwise, standard references apply
  • Work History: 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days; verification required
  • Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of Prior Radiation Exposure: Required if applicable to certain units (not typically for Pediatric OR)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test: Within 12 months of start; must be clean-shaven for N95 fit testing; annual updates required
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Highly preferred for pediatric specialties; declination acceptable
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters may be required based on titer results
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of vaccine series, or declination accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history required; boosters may be required
  • TB Testing: Negative T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months; chest X-ray and questionnaire required if positive history
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (September 1 – March 31); vaccine or medical/religious exemption required (declinations not allowed)
  • COVID Vaccination: Preferred but not required

Required Training & Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Must pass with 85% within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing: Required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024; must score 80% or higher
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for RNs in telemetry, ER, ICU, progressive care, stepdown, labor and delivery units; not required for pediatric units
  • Language Services Training: Required for RNs
  • CAUTI Education Training: Required for RNs except PICU, NICU, and Psychiatry/Behavioral Health
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training: Required for RNs
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module: Required for RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, and NICU
  • Stroke Education: Required for RNs except pediatric specialties and NICU
  • CLABSI Prevention Training: Required for RNs
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training: Required for RNs
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education: Required for RNs
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Training: Required for RNs
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training: Required for RNs
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module: Required for RNs (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness: Required for RNs
  • AME Blood Administration Module: Required for RNs except Case Managers and Behavioral Health/Home Health; annual update required
  • New Employee Orientation Module: Must be completed by start date or attestation accepted if returning within 1 year
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module: Required for RNs (except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook: Required for ER/ED RNs only
  • eCart Training Module: Required for RNs except pediatric, perioperative/OR, outpatient, case managers, and home health
  • Chaperone Policy Training: Required for RNs; new module required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated
  • Fire Safety Module: Required for RNs and Allied Health as of 5/4/2026
