Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a short-term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- Night shift with every other weekend and float as needed within the department
- Charting system: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred; clean shaven required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray documentation (T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months)
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; boosters required if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of 3-dose series, or declination within 1 year
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history; boosters if low/equivocal titer
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start (rapid accepted)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 – 3/31); declinations not allowed
- COVID vaccination series preferred
Background and Employment History
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required; foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated candidates
- Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps greater than 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- References per standard protocol
Additional Information
- Candidate must have valid photo ID matching legal name on first day
- EPIC testing is highly encouraged prior to orientation for those with EPIC experience; onsite EPIC training provided if testing not completed or failed
- Various attestations and training modules must be reviewed and signed, often via electronic signature
- Floating within department and working every other weekend required
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity step down unit within a Level II Trauma Center, requiring strong clinical skills, certifications, and compliance with comprehensive training and health requirements.
