Description

Registered Nurse - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1900-0730)
  • Call: 24 hours of on-call required within a 6-week period
  • Work Days: Monday through Friday
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Pre-op Responsibility: Night shift nurses expected to pre-op first cases from 0530-0730 when no PACU patients are present
  • Float: May float within the service line as needed
  • Local Radius Rule: Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Unit & Patient Population

  • Level 1 Trauma Center PACU
  • Surgical patients including GU, GYN, colorectal, minimally invasive procedures, bariatric, some ENT
  • Separate Interventional Radiology pre/post area
  • Manage complicated postoperative patients with multiple drains, vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, and recovery from general anesthesia

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required (cannot pend at start)
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
  • Professional license primary source verification required (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit testing for N95 respirators required and must be current
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Two negative PPDs or acceptable TB blood test within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption during flu season
  • Annual completion of facility-specific compliance training and policies (HIPAA, hand hygiene, dress code, latex allergy, confidentiality, fingernail policy)
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

  • No weekend shifts required
  • No block scheduling accommodations
  • Locals are not accepted for this assignment
  • Parking fees apply for day shifts; free parking for straight night shifts in employee lots
  • Orientation parking available at a reduced rate (no reimbursement)
  • Must adhere to facility policies including dress code and hand hygiene
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but are not required for extensions or per diem status

This position is ideal for a critical care registered nurse with PACU experience seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, Level 1 trauma center environment. Night shift availability and on-call flexibility are essential.
