Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Float to multiple ICUs including Trauma, Oncology, Cardiac/Heart and Vascular, Neurology, Medicine, and COVID units.
- If ICU needs are low, float to inpatient floors as a staff nurse (non-critical care units or patient sitter duties may be assigned).
- ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1 for all shifts.
- Inpatient floor ratio: no more than 1:3 when floated.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus holiday rotation.
- No specific CVICU experience required, but cardiac skill set preferred (e.g., Swan-Ganz catheter hemodynamic interpretation, IABP, Impella, ECMO, vasoactive drips, CRRT).
- Required skills include ventilator management, IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation.
- Preferred experience with triage, ICP monitoring, PA lines, and Level 1 Trauma.
- Past experience with EPIC electronic health record system is strongly preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Float experience across multiple units
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM to 7:15 PM)
- Total hours per week: 36
Additional Information
- Facility uses EPIC for charting.
- Free parking available.
- Must provide two professional references (supervisors preferred within last year).
- Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually. Oncology competency exam required for Med Surg-Oncology unit.
- Skills checklist required within 1 year of start; oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit.
- Candidates must adhere to all facility policies and complete all required documentation and certifications prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with prior travel contract experience who are flexible and able to float across multiple critical care and inpatient units.
