Registered Nurse (Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) - Morgantown, West Virginia
Job Details
- Specialty: Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Unit: 10 EAST (Neuro Stepdown & EMU)
- Beds: 31 total (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Stepdown: 1:3
- EMU Floor: 1:5-6
- Charge Nurse: Available 24/7
- Nurse Aides: 4 per shift (Ratios 1:8-9)
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7; RNs not required to have vent experience
- Telemetry: Present; RNs do not read strips
- Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs
- Orientation: 2 shifts on unit (12-hour night shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled)
- Floating: Possible to other units (7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Travelers expected to participate in holiday rotation
- Shift Scheduling: May allow 3 consecutive night shifts but not guaranteed; flexibility required
Patient Population & Care
- Higher acuity neuroscience patients including:
- Stroke patients (history of caring for stroke patients required)
- Epilepsy Monitoring Unit patients
- Seizures
- Craniotomies
- External Ventricular Drains (EVDs) (experience preferred)
- Post-TPA patients (managed by permanent staff only)
- Common drips managed (titration by physician orders or protocols with education):
- Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin
Required Certifications & Skills
- Required:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- BLS Certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (must have at time of submission)
- Preferred:
- ACLS Certification
- Strong neuro experience required, including history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIHSS
- EPIC electronic medical record experience required
Additional Requirements & Notes
- COVID-19 vaccine required (2 doses Moderna or Pfizer, or 1 dose J&J) unless approved medical or religious exemption
- Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after 1 full year on assignment
- Only one submission allowed at a time across the system
- Must disclose any license issues at time of submission
- Travel teams must be submitted together
- Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; submissions may be held if position is full
- Individual unit requirements apply as per internal guidelines
This position is ideal for experienced neuro stepdown RNs with strong stroke and epilepsy monitoring skills, comfortable working night shifts with flexible scheduling, and who meet the certification and vaccination requirements.
