Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) position requiring strong neuro background, NIHSS certification, and Epic proficiency on a 12-hour night shift schedule.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 31-bed Neuro Stepdown & EMU unit (25 Stepdown beds, 6 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit beds)
- Higher-acuity neuroscience patient population including strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EVDs
- Patient ratios of 1:3 for Stepdown and 1:5-6 for the EMU floor
- Nurse aides are present on the unit at a ratio of 1:8-9 (4 aides per shift)
- Telemetry is available on the unit; RNs are not required to read strips independently
- RT is available 24/7 and manages floor vents; RNs are not required to have vent experience
- Drip titration is performed by physician order; common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin
- Charting is done in Epic; prior Epic experience is required
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7:30a), three shifts per week
- Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule required
- Holidays are included in the rotation as scheduled
- Floating may be required to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS (NIHSS must be in hand at time of consideration); ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong neuro nursing experience required, including experience caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH Stroke Scale assessments
- Stepdown-level qualification required
- Epic EMR experience required
- BSN not required
- Driver's license address must be from outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Any license issues or disciplinary history must be disclosed
- Submission packet must include 2 references (1 supervisor, 1 peer or additional supervisor), skills checklist completed within the past year, copies of certifications, and a copy of driver's license
- COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted with the appropriate exemption form for review
Additional Information
- Provide stepdown-level neuro nursing care including monitoring and management of stroke, seizure, craniotomy, and EMU patients
- Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7
- Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Travelers are expected to be flexible with scheduling; three consecutive shifts may be accommodated but are not guaranteed
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
- Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must take a 2-year break before returning
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
