Description

Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery

Location: Albany, Georgia
Contract Length: 17 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Labor & Delivery
  • Shift: Days (6:45 AM – 6:45 PM)
  • Hours per day: 12
  • Hours per week: 36
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Coverage: Rotate with permanent staff
  • Floating: Yes, as needed to postpartum unit
  • Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts

Patient Population & Unit Info

  • 12 labor beds, 5 antepartum beds, 2 operating rooms
  • OB emergency room with 6 triage beds
  • Approximately 150-200 births per month
  • Patient acuity ranges from high-risk OB to routine OB
  • Antepartum patients may stay on L&D prior to delivery or discharge
  • Baby-friendly hospital with in-house lactation support (7 AM – 7 PM)
  • Neonatologist and OB hospitalist available in-house 24/7

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Intermediate or above Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery specialty
  • Prior travel experience required (no first-time travelers)

Clinical & Operational Details

  • Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines
  • Charge nurse role available, generally outside staffing grid
  • OR techs serve as OB techs, scrub for C-sections, attend vaginal deliveries, and handle stocking
  • Procedures on unit include C-sections, cerclages, and tubal ligations
  • No telemetry or ventilator patients on unit
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available 24/7
  • No IV team support
  • Fetal Heart Monitoring system: OB Trace
  • Electronic Medical Record system: Meditech
  • Scrub color provided by hospital

Additional Notes

  • 72-mile radius rule strictly enforced for travel
  • Call requirement does not cover all shifts
  • The unit supports a range of OB patients including those requiring extended antepartum care
