Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shifts, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend and some holidays required
Unit & Patient Population
- Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU)
- Must be willing to work with ICU and Intermediate Medical Care (IMC) patients
Required Experience & Skills
- ICU experience required
- Neurosurgery experience preferred
- Epic electronic health record system experience required
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Wisconsin
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification by AHA
- Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start (pass/fail testing with remediation process)
Testing & Competency Requirements
- Telemetry pass/fail exam required before starting (Adult Telemetry Test via LMS platform)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Annual renewal and compliance with facility-specific testing protocols
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Comprehensive background check within 90 days prior to start, including:
- Social Security Number trace
- County and nationwide criminal checks
- Sex offender registry check
- Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form required
- Education verification as applicable
- Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
- Physical exam documentation per agency standards (not facility required)
Immunization & Health Requirements
- Tuberculosis (TB) testing: IGRA blood test or two-step skin test with documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 doses or positive titers; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval
- Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval
- Hepatitis B vaccination series with positive titer or facility-specific declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof (if applicable)
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination (if working in Microbiology)
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing policies
- Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start
- Completion of required exemption forms if applicable (Flu, MMR, Varicella)
References & Documentation
- Two clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard)

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- Minimum of 1 year of Neuro ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification by American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
