Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Work on a Stepdown unit with potential float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Shifts are 3x12 hours, rotating between day (7:00 am - 7:30 pm) and night (7:00 pm - 7:30 am).
- Shift rotation may be adjusted based on hospital operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience.
- Stepdown experience within the last year.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Licenses & Certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only; Healthstream certs not accepted).
- ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam (SafeMedicate) must be passed during orientation.
Orientation & Competency Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Passing scores required on baseline competency exams for medication administration (90%) and ECG interpretation (80%).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility policy, updated annually.
- Required immunizations/vaccinations with no declinations accepted (Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu seasonal vaccination). Medical and religious exemptions must be approved through agency and facility process.
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.
Background & Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search, updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting completed within 48 hours of contract signing, results required within 12 months and updated annually. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Employment application with at least 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care practice in a similar area.
- Two professional references from within one year of start date required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all onboarding modules and competency testing prior to clearance to start.
- Candidates with a gap of less than 6 months since their last assignment at this facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.
- Candidates must use their legal name consistently across all documentation.
- Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
- Prior travel experience is accepted but not explicitly required.
