Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
  • Rotating shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Day: 7:00 am – 7:30 pm / Night: 7:00 pm – 7:30 am). Shift rotation may be adjusted based on hospital needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
  • Current certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually. Facial hair exemptions require approval.
  • Immunizations and screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with annual updates)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Annual flu vaccination (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval)
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Background and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
  • Nursys verification within 30 days of start.
  • Two professional references from within the last year required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
  • Modules include safety, medication administration, and ECG interpretation preparation materials.
  • Baseline competency exams (medication and ECG) required at orientation with remediation and retake opportunities if needed.
  • Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.

Additional Notes

  • Progressive Care Unit experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Candidates must be prepared for potential floating to other units caring for similar patient populations.
  • Must be flexible with shift rotations to meet operational needs.
