Job Opportunity: Telemetry Registered Nurse
Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a telemetry/stepdown unit.
- Must be proficient in reading cardiac rhythms and pass a hospital proctored rhythm identification test with >80% accuracy overall and 100% accuracy on critical rhythms.
- Experience managing IV cardiac medications, continuous infusions, and stroke care/management is highly preferred.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio approximately 4-5 patients per nurse.
- Local residency restriction: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius and not reside in specified nearby counties.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including at least 2 years of telemetry experience.
- Telemetry experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Proficiency in EKG/ECG interpretation.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience managing IV cardiac medications and continuous infusions.
- Familiarity with stroke care and management protocols.
- Experience with Epic electronic charting system.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Critical drip and cerebrovascular accident (CVA) care experience.
- Familiarity with stroke care protocols.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date; onsite physical completed prior to start including completion of a "TSH Medical History" form.
- Negative 2-step PPD test or Quantiferon Gold test within 1 year; chest X-ray required if prior positive PPD.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
- Immunization or titer proof for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt).
- Completion of Ishihara color vision test prior to start (can be done onsite).
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training as required by New York State.
Testing and Competency Exams
- Advanced EKG/ECG test with strict passing criteria (90% overall, 100% lethal rhythms).
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Color blindness test preferred.
Orientation and Documentation
- Completion of online HealthStream orientation modules prior to start date.
- Must provide a passport-style photo for badge issuance.
- Must sign facility-specific releases and assessments including lift assessment (typically 25 lbs).
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG must be current.
Additional Notes
- Housing in the area can be expensive in the fall; candidates are encouraged to review housing options before contract signing.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs who are confident in rhythm interpretation and cardiac medication management, and who meet New York licensure and certification requirements.
