Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Patient Ratio: 4:1 for all shifts
  • Average Daily Census: 30 patients
  • Beds/Rooms: 32
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Float: Will float within the service line
  • Procedures: Auto stem cell transplants, chemotherapy administration

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including:
    • Statewide searches (MO Highway Patrol, etc.)
    • Nationwide and international searches if applicable
    • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks required
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not required for Missouri)
  • Primary source verification of Missouri RN license via NURSYS
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, opiates, cocaine, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documentation:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (no exemption for BMT unit)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, with yearly TB questionnaire
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination (no exemptions for BMT or neonatal units)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Facility-specific orientation modules required (approx. 16 hours) unless completed in current calendar year

Documentation & Other Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred, within last year)
  • Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start (Oncology skills checklist mandatory)
  • Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams required
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
  • Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers
  • Various state-specific background and registry checks required for Missouri and Illinois placements

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to float within the oncology service line
  • Parking information and costs vary; night shift parking is free in employee lots
  • Candidates must adhere to all facility policies to avoid being sent home from shifts
  • Certification requirements may vary by unit; check unit-specific descriptions for additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, MAB, NIH Stroke Certification if applicable

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity oncology unit within a Magnet and Level I Trauma designated hospital, supporting complex patient care including stem cell transplants and chemotherapy administration.
