Job Opportunity: RRT PICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role primarily in Labor & Delivery (L&D) with floating assignments possible to PICU, NICU, and Pediatrics units.
  • May also float to a nearby hospital location as needed.
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts of 12 hours each, every other weekend required.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Indiana (temporary license accepted if applied for permanent).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, with experience within the last year required.
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (AHA or RQI accepted)
    • BLS (AHA or RQI accepted)
    • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist credential
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients required.
  • Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience required due to primary assignment.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in PICU.
  • Children's hospital experience within the last 3 years required.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.

Unit and Floating Information

  • Home unit assignment will be NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics based on facility needs.
  • Floating between NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units is expected.
  • May float to an additional hospital location as needed.

Shift Details

  • 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM).
  • Every other weekend coverage required.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check required within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95). On-site fit testing available only as last resort with approval.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start. If positive, chest x-ray and documentation required.
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted. History of disease not accepted.
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31). Declinations not accepted.

Documentation and Verification

  • Must provide:
    • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
    • Official transcript or diploma showing degree and graduation date.
    • Education verification completed by a third party.
    • Employment application covering last 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
    • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge nurses, managers, supervisors, or above.
    • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter.
    • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam.
    • Color blindness test (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of mandatory facility orientation modules and safety acknowledgements prior to start.
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms.
  • Must review and sign facility-specific packets and orientation materials via electronic signature before start date.
  • Respiratory therapists must complete mandatory RRT modules by the Friday prior to start (paid time).

Additional Notes

  • Indiana RN travel restrictions effective 11/30/24 do not apply to Respiratory Therapists.
  • Candidates must confirm awareness and comfort with every other weekend shift requirement before submission.
