Description

Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; minimum 13 weeks accepted)
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Patient Ratio: 1:2


Unit & Specialty Details

  • CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit) with high acuity critical care patients
  • Requires experience in Cardiac/CVICU ICU care (minimum 2 years)
  • No neuro ICU experience accepted
  • Care includes ventilator management, arterial line, pulmonary artery catheter, pacemakers, Impella, balloon pumps, LVADs
  • Patient conditions: acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload, post cardiac arrest, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock, pre-heart transplant, arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia
  • Management of vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring, dialysis, Foley catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree (no pend allowed at start)
  • Missouri RN license primary source verification via NURSYS
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug screening within 1 year of start, including full panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Fit mask test (N95 respirator) renewed annually; facial hair must allow proper fit
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
  • Facility-specific documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, orientation modules (approx. 16 hours via online platform)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
  • Employment application and two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

Work Conditions & Additional Information

  • Floating within the service line may be required to meet facility needs
  • Time off requests limited to 2 requests totaling no more than 40 hours (5 days) during contract
  • Parking: Night shift parking is free in employee lots; day/night rotation requires paid parking pass
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
  • Magnet-designated, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center
  • Total staffed beds: 1,266
  • Scrub color: Navy blue

Summary

This is a night shift travel contract RN position in a high-acuity CVICU requiring at least 2 years of cardiac ICU experience. Candidates must hold current RN licensure, ACLS and BLS certifications, and pass a dysrhythmia competency exam. Prior travel experience is required (no first-timers). The role involves managing complex cardiac patients with advanced devices and therapies in a large, Magnet-recognized teaching hospital. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and facility-specific policies is mandatory.
