Description
Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry (Night Shift)
Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Night, 4x12 hour shifts (19:00 - 7:30)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Unit: 5 East - Oncology/MedSurg/Telemetry & Vascular Access
- Patient ratio: 1:7
- Schedule includes nights, weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, and holidays within contract
- OT paid after 48 hours
- Facility cannot accommodate blocked schedule requests on this unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Proficient with Epic electronic health record system
Background & Compliance
- Zero tolerance for any license or background hits; candidates with any hits will not be considered
- 7-year criminal background check required within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Fingerprinting required via Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check (VSP)
- Must provide current NURSYS report and Qualivis Cover Sheet including Return to Office (RTO) information
- No RN candidates with permanent address less than 50 miles from facility will be considered
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Pass/fail EKG competency test at orientation (minimum 80% score, one attempt only)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required (except Mother-Baby, Couplet Care, Postpartum)
- Color blindness test (100% passing score required; retake allowed once)
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required
- Acknowledgment of pass/fail testing required for MS/Telemetry and related units
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Fit test for any N95 mask within 1 year of start; facility does not allow PAPR
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or Tspot) within 1 year; annual testing required
- Immunizations/titers required within 10 years or documented declination for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella (booster required if low/equivocal titer)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within past 10 years for certain units (not applicable here)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually by October 31 or approved exemption with mask-wearing
- COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required; documentation collected if available
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
Documentation & Onboarding
- Passport-style photo (shoulders up, front-facing, plain background) required before start
- Completion of unit-specific job description and skills checklist annually
- Proof of 2 professional references required
- Complete employment application/resume required
- Candidate information grid and Pyxis acknowledgment must be completed promptly after signing contract
- National Criminal Record Request Form must be signed within 72 hours of contract signing
Additional Notes
- Candidates must indicate shift preference (3x12 or 4x12) when applying
- Facility requires strict adherence to all compliance and documentation deadlines
- No blocked schedules allowed on this unit
- Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for this role
