Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lubbock, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Facility Overview

  • Short Term Acute Care facility with 379 staffed beds
  • Level II Trauma Center
  • Nursing dress code: solid navy blue uniforms or scrubs (print tops not allowed except in specific pediatric and women’s services units)
  • Free parking available in designated employee/visitor lots

Job Details

  • Position: ER Registered Nurse
  • Floating between units: Not required
  • On-call: Not required
  • Weekend shifts: 6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks required
  • Block schedules: Approved but not mandatory
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Valid Registered Nurse license for Texas
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license
  • Current physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Required immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
    • COVID-19 vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
  • Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required for travel starts on or after 2/5/2024, updated annually
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)

Experience & References

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in ER nursing required
  • Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of work history required

Competencies & Training

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Competency exams required as per specialty
  • Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp)
  • Epic training modules completion may be required depending on facility assignment

Background & Screening Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly
  • Education verification required for nursing degree
  • State-specific searches and attestations as applicable

Additional Requirements

  • Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required
  • Float policy acknowledgement: may be required to float to other nearby facilities
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel nurses
  • Physical exam must confirm ability to work with or without accommodation
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • Weekend work required (6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks)
  • No on-call or floating between units required
