Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:30 – 7:00)
- Hours per week: 48
- Floating required, including to Med Surg with 1:7 nurse-to-patient ratios
- No call required
- Schedule options include 36/36, 36/48, or 48/48 (hours on/off rotations)
- Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
- Additional overtime shifts available as needed
- Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Orientation & Onboarding
- General orientation begins on Sundays (online computer-based learning)
- 16 hours of non-billable orientation required
- Photo for badge and multiple facility-specific forms must be completed within 24-48 hours of contract signing
- Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance required within 48 hours of contract signing
- Respiratory fit testing completed onsite (no outside fit tests accepted)
- Candidate must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for TN licensed/certified candidates
- Drug screen: Standard 9-panel within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not annually)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 PPDs within last 12 months or equivalent)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or documented boosters
- Varicella titer or documented boosters
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31) with facility-specific exemption forms
Competencies & Additional Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness testing required (no annual update needed)
- Skills checklist required
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Candidate must review and comply with facility dress code, uniform guidelines, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement, and influenza policy
