Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Night Shift)
Location: Mooresville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
- Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- On-Call: None
- Orientation: Biweekly sessions
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Local Candidates: Accepted if within 75 miles
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 3 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documents & Compliance
- Identification: Driver’s license or government-issued photo ID
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start date
- Includes SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days
- Education Verification: Required for all candidates
- Physical Exam: Within 12 months of start
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no exemptions)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity or vaccination (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination (2 doses or positive titer)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine for 2025-26 (no exemptions)
- Polio vaccine or signed attestation
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Competency: Unit-specific competency exam required
- Pass/Fail Testing: EKG/Medication testing administered at orientation (passing score 80%)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card: Required or training provided onsite if not held
Additional Requirements
- Duke Guest Account: Must be set up prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Completion of Online Modules: Must be completed before orientation
- Competency Checklists (CBOs): Must be completed within 3 weeks after start date
- Employment Application: Must include 7 years of work history
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually

- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some document requirements waived or accepted on file.
- No prior travel experience is explicitly required for this position.
- Block scheduling is not available for this role.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a medical-surgical unit caring for adult and geriatric patients during night shifts with a defined patient ratio and structured orientation. Compliance with all licensure, certification, health, and background requirements is mandatory.
