Pediatrics Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3x12-hour shifts or 4x12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care on a pediatric med/surg and behavioral health unit.
- Unit cares for diverse pediatric patients with conditions such as appendectomies, tonsil/adenoidectomies, viral illnesses, ingestions requiring medical clearance, and behavioral health concerns with underlying medical needs.
- Fast-paced environment supporting acute and transitional care.
- Emphasis on candidates with strong medical/surgical experience willing to care for behavioral health patients.
- Pediatrics experience preferred but not mandatory.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Minimum 1 year or more of total travel nursing experience
- Experience in medical-surgical nursing
- Experience in behavioral health nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous pediatric nursing experience.
Additional Information
- The unit is an 18-bed pediatric unit with two distinct sides to support patient flow and team collaboration.
- Candidates will gain experience across a wide range of acute and transitional pediatric conditions.
- Behavioral health RNs have specific certification and clearance requirements distinct from other RNs.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required for behavioral health techs but not for behavioral health RNs.
Summary
This travel nursing position is ideal for experienced pediatric RNs with strong medical-surgical and behavioral health skills, who have at least one year of prior travel nursing experience and hold the necessary certifications and licenses to work in Missouri and Kansas. The role involves night shifts on a busy pediatric med/surg/behavioral health unit requiring comprehensive pediatric competencies and compliance with extensive health and background screening protocols.
