Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each; 19:00–7:30)
- Weekly Hours: 48 hours (can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week)
- Patient Census: Average daily census of 15 patients
- Unit Size: 12 rooms, 17 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 for all shifts
- Floating: Will float within the service line as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: Navy
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Health Requirements
- TB Testing: Two negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year of start
- Immunizations:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – Positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required
- Tdap vaccine or declination required (Td acceptable for renewals)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/30–04/01)
- Drug Testing: Must include amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP
- Fit Mask Testing: Annual N95 fit test required; facial hair must allow proper testing or be shaved
Competency & Training Requirements
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must be completed for each new contract; remediation process in place for failures
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam: Required annually; Oncology competency required for Med Surg-Oncology unit
- Orientation Modules: Required for all RNs; completed through online platform; approximately 16 hours
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable by profession
- Additional Certifications (if applicable by unit):
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for extensions past 9 months in Burn ICU
- CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention Institute or Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification for Neuro ICU RNs
Compliance & Documentation
- Government-issued ID required (Driver’s license for Home Health positions)
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, plus education verification
- State-specific checks for Missouri (EDL, Highway Patrol, Family Care Safety Registry)
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
- Employment application and professional references (two required; supervisors preferred)
- Skills checklist: Unit-specific, required within 1 year of start
- Facility-specific documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies
- Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers
- Badge photo: Recent (within 6 months), head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions

- Nurses will float within the service line as needed
- Every other weekend work is required
- Parking: Monthly passes available; no charge for straight night shifts parking in employee lots
