Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 4x10 hour shifts (20:30 - 07:00)
  • Schedule: Rotating shift start times as needed; primarily Monday-Friday with 3-4 weekday and 1-2 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, per call policy
  • On-Call: No call required for night shift
  • Floating: May float within service line as needed
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (home must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Guaranteed Hours: Not specified
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Hospital
  • Charting System: EPIC

Job Description

  • Scrub and circulate experience required for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries
  • Primary cases include cardiac, thoracic, vascular (open and endovascular), transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas), and Whipple (pancreatic) procedures
  • Must be able to work in a Level 1 trauma facility environment
  • BSN preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Scrub experience in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical cases

Required Compliance and Documentation

  • Government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) with annual renewal
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (required every 10 years)
    • Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
  • Facility-specific documents including:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
    • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies acknowledgment
    • Orientation modules completion (approximately 16 hours)
    • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
    • Vehicle registration form if working day shifts

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually, including:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent)
  • Skills checklist specific to unit required within 1 year of start
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred, within last year if possible)
  • Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
  • May be required to complete additional certifications depending on unit assignment (e.g., Trauma Nursing Core Course if extending beyond 9 months in certain units)

Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have more than 2 years of experience in a Level 1 trauma facility
  • No local candidates accepted; must live at least 75 miles away from the facility
  • No block scheduling available
  • Parking fees apply for day shifts; free parking for straight night shifts in employee lots
  • Must adhere to all facility policies and complete all required documentation prior to start

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, Level 1 trauma hospital setting with a focus on cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical cases.
