Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Patient Ratio: 1:5 with mixed/shared acuity levels
- Float Requirement: Yes, as census warrants
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Block Scheduling: May be accommodated but not guaranteed
- Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: Minimal
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in Emergency Department or related specialty
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement
- Skills required:
- General Emergency Department care (combined adult and pediatric)
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- Phlebotomy and IV starts
- Continuous IV paralytics and sedation
- Emergency medication administration
- IV vasopressors
- Procedural sedation administration
- Stroke (CVA) care
- Isolation precautions
Certifications & Licenses Required
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New York
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units and OR)
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit description (e.g., NRP, TNCC, EFM)
Electronic Health Record System
- Epic preferred for charting and documentation
Health & Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual) with acceptable mask types; PAPR allowed if failed
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Verification Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly
- Education verification from primary source (not required for CNA)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
- Transcript/diploma if education verification not on file
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
- References (2 within 3 years) required for travel agency only
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
- Minimal return-to-origin restrictions requested
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
