Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Potsdam, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center emergency department combining adult and pediatric patients (non-trauma ED as well).
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each).
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per 4-week schedule).
- Patient ratio experience required: 1:5.
- Unit systems used: EPIC (electronic medical records), Pyxis (medication dispensing), SBAR (communication).
- Unit orientation duration: 24 hours.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York.
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- TNCC certification.
- NIHSS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
- TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation).
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start.
- Education verification for nursing degree.
- Annual harassment prevention training (New York state requirement).
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types required; PAPR exemption possible if fit test failed).
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required within 10 years).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – positive titer or vaccination required.
- Hepatitis B – positive titer, completed series, or declination.
- Varicella – positive titer, vaccination, or documented history.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panels required).
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
Documentation and Verification
- Two professional references required.
- Employment application and 7-year work history verification required.
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background).
- Completion of facility-specific training modules and policy reviews prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract if booked within 30 days of start.
- Strict adherence to expiration dates on health documents; renewals required prior to expiration during assignment to avoid removal from the floor.
- No local candidates accepted; must reside more than 50 miles away.
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply; prior travel experience is not required.
