Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Float
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float position covering medicine surgical patients including urology, orthopedics, neurology, family medicine, surgical short stay, medical short stay, oncology, pulmonary, and GI medicine.
- Patient ratios: 1:3 on day shifts, 1:4 on nights and weekends.
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per 8 weeks).
- No on-call responsibilities.
- Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan.
- Minimum 2 years of float experience as a Registered Nurse, with float experience within the last year.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG clearance.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 masks accepted; PAPR requires failed fit test documentation).
- Immunizations and titers:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if negative/equivocal).
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines; booster if negative/equivocal).
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination; declination required if titer low/equivocal).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions allowed).
- Two recent professional references from managers or supervisors (charge RN references not accepted).
- Completion of facility-specific orientation paperwork and attestations prior to or during orientation.
Orientation & Facility Policies
- Candidates must complete required facility-specific modules and sign confidentiality, code of conduct, conflict of interest, sexual harassment, and misconduct policy attestations.
- Pass/fail competency testing for EKG and medication administration required for Telemetry, PACU, and ICU units; study materials provided.
- Badge and pager return policies apply at assignment end to avoid fees.
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
- This is a float role requiring flexibility across multiple medical surgical units.
