Description

Registered Nurse - CVICU (Saint Louis, Missouri)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks acceptable)
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (can sign for 36 or 48 hours)
Patient Ratio: 1:2


Job Description

  • High acuity Cardiac ICU (CVICU) requiring specialized Cardiac/CVICU ICU experience
  • Care for patients with acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload, post cardiac arrest, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock, pre-heart transplant, arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia
  • Management of ventilators, arterial lines, pulmonary artery catheters, pacemakers, Impellas, balloon pumps, LVADs, intra-aortic balloon pumps
  • Experience with vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring, dialysis, Foley catheters
  • Floating within the service line may be required
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Must pass Relias EKG competency exam before starting
  • Experience in ventilator management, arterial line management, pacemakers, Impellas, balloon pumps, LVADs, vasoactive drips, PA/TVP catheter monitoring, and dialysis

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including specific drug panels, must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination (with unit-specific exemptions)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
  • Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments required prior to start, including HIPAA, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code, and latex allergy questionnaires
  • Background checks and state-specific searches required for Missouri placements

  • Time off requests limited to 2 requests totaling no more than 40 hours (5 days) during the contract
  • Orientation parking available with fees; night shift parking is free in employee lots
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Facility is a Magnet & Teaching Hospital and Level I Trauma Center with 1,266 staffed beds
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue

  • Two professional references required (supervisors within last year preferred)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
