Description

Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks acceptable)
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Patient Ratio: 1:2


Unit & Patient Population

  • CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit) with high acuity critical care patients
  • Requires experience managing cardiac and cardiovascular ICU patients, including:
    • Ventilator management
    • Arterial line and pulmonary artery catheter management
    • Pacemakers, Impellas, balloon pumps, LVADs
    • Acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload
    • Post cardiac arrest, complete heart block, cardiogenic shock, pre-heart transplant
    • Arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia
    • Vasoactive drips, central lines, dialysis, Foley catheters
    • Intra-aortic balloon pumps

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Successful completion of Relias Basic Dysrhythmia competency exam

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug test within 1 year of start, including specific panels (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Background checks including:
    • Criminal background check (7-year search, statewide and nationwide as applicable)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
    • State-specific searches and registries as required
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • Missouri RN license primary source verification via NURSYS
  • Required facility-specific documents:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
    • TB Questionnaire and negative TB test or chest x-ray documentation
    • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (with boosters or declinations as applicable)
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (required every 10 years)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Sept 30 – Apr 1)
  • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
  • Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers (not applicable for night shift)
  • Fit mask testing annually (N95 respirators) with accommodations for failed fit tests
  • Orientation modules (~16 hours) completed via online platform prior to start (not required if completed in current calendar year)

Work Conditions & Additional Info

  • Start date approximately 3-4 weeks from offer, depending on compliance tier
  • Time off allowed: up to 2 requests totaling no more than 40 hours (5 days) during contract
  • No on-call requirement
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Parking: Monthly passes available for a fee; free parking for straight night shifts in employee lots
  • Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Total staffed beds: 1,266
