Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Job Description

• Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement patient care plans aimed at returning patients to optimal health.
• Provide bedside nursing care and carry out medical orders.
• Delegate and oversee tasks performed by Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Technicians.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans.
• Assume leadership responsibilities including:

  • Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegating and coordinating nursing care assignments.
  • Facilitating and participating in patient conferences.
  • Identifying and addressing patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs.
  • Participating in discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Seeking professional growth through educational opportunities.
  • Teaching, guiding, precepting, and mentoring new employees and students.
  • Functioning as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and assignment delegation.
• Communicate relevant information clearly and effectively.
• Demonstrate organizational skills through effective planning.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Experience in Emergency Department (ED) and Step-down units.
• Current certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association, and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications: TCAR, TNCC, CCRN, SCRN.
• Neurosurgical experience.
• Open heart experience.
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required.

Work Environment & Additional Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • ICU: 1:2 (1:1 for special populations)
  • Step-down: 1:4
  • ED: Same ratios as ICU when caring for holds.
• Dress code: Navy Blue scrubs.
• Electronic Medical Record system: Cerner.

Note: This position involves leadership and coordination responsibilities in a high-acuity acute care setting.
