Description
Registered Nurse (Neuro Med-Surg) - Travel Assignment
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7pm - 7am)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 48 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
Unit Details
- Department: Medical Surgical / Neuro
- Unit: Floor 9 - Neuro
- Number of Beds: 34
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
- Patient Types: Stroke, spine/back surgeries, cranial surgeries (usually not assigned to travelers), neck surgeries, medical neuro disorders, neuro intervention procedures, Guillain Barre, Myasthenia Gravis, seizures, EEG monitoring, surgeries involving nerve access
- Average Patient Length of Stay: 2-5 days
- Neuroscience Nurse Practitioners available 24/7 for neuro surgery and intervention support
- Respiratory Therapy equipment available: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, Trachs; RT staff available as resource
- Telemetry monitors expected to be implemented summer 2024 (workflow pending)
- Charge Nurse present on each shift (no patient assignment)
- CNAs available at a ratio of 1:8
- Floating required to support all Med-Surg areas in the region; travelers are first to float
- Weekend and holiday shifts required as needed
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical or Telemetry nursing
- Preferred experience with stroke patients
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- EPIC electronic medical record experience strongly preferred
- First-time travelers are acceptable (prior travel experience not required)
Orientation & Scheduling
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 days plus 1 didactic day with unit-based educator
- Scheduling managed by unit managers; travelers fill staffing needs
- Night shifts typically scheduled in blocks of 3 when possible (not guaranteed)
- No call or standby requirements
- No specific scrub color required; professional and clean attire expected
Additional Notes
- Nurses do not titrate drips on this unit
- No common titratable or set rate drips used
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address eligibility
- House Supervisor supports entire hospital; Assistant Managers available on shifts
