Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – EP Lab
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (5 days/week, 8 hours/day)
Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be full shift length)
Local Candidates: Not accepted (home must be at least 75 miles away)
On-Call: Not required
Floating: May float within scope to other departments/units/facilities as needed; scheduled floating to SLE on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
Job Description
- Work in Electrophysiology (EP) Lab with 4 rooms
- Procedures include pacemaker/defibrillator lead extraction/removal, right heart catheterization, Watchman procedure, arrhythmia induction, cardioversion, left atrial appendage closure, pacemaker insertion, tilt table study, paracentesis, and more
- Responsibilities include scrub procedures, baseline measurements, procedural sedation administration and monitoring, reversal agents, thrombolytics, central line insertion/management assistance, blood product administration, implanted ports care, PICC line care, IV starts and maintenance, activated clotting time monitoring, circulation procedures, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, external compression devices, hypothermia protocol, infection prevention, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, isolation precautions/PPE, laser-assisted procedures, malignant hyperthermia protocol, 12 lead EKG/ECG acquisition, pressure ulcer assessment/prevention, radiation and laser safety, sheath removal/monitoring, topical hemostasis, vascular closure systems, and more
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last year
- Electrophysiology Lab experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Scrub experience
Additional Requirements
- Must provide government-issued ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required (cannot pend at start)
- NURSYS verification of Missouri RN license required
- Color blindness test within 12 months of start required
- Unit-specific competency exams required, including:
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (new contracts)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required
- Fit mask (N95) testing required and must be renewed annually
- Negative TB screening or chest x-ray within 12 months required
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap every 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption)
- Drug testing within 1 year required, including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 – April 1)
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and regulatory compliance education modules (approx. 16 hours) prior to start
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Must complete and sign facility-required documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, TB questionnaire, and others as applicable
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred, with specific guidelines for RNFAs)
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
Work Conditions
- No on-call required
- Floating within scope may be required
- No pending licenses accepted
- Return to work restrictions: no more than 7 days
