Description

Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location

  • New Brunswick, New Jersey

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Shift Details

  • Night shift
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday)

Patient Population & Units

  • Neonatal Critical Care and Pediatrics
  • Floating between Pediatric units and NICU; may float to adult units on main campus

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist with NICU experience (minimum 1.5 years)
  • NICU experience within the last year
  • Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification

Clinical Skills and Procedures

  • Blood gas analysis
  • Ventilator, BiPAP, High flow initiation and management
  • Code response and in-house transport
  • Medication administration
  • Chest physiotherapy

Equipment Experience

  • Servo I ventilator
  • V60 BiPAP

Documentation System

  • EPIC electronic health record

Additional Requirements and Information

  • Must provide government-issued photo ID and driver’s license within 48 hours of signing
  • Criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
  • Drug screen required within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
  • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory before start; must be updated annually
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray required per facility policy
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Color vision test required if job tasks involve color discrimination
  • References: Two within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
  • Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start date required (NJ state mandate)
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam and EKG/dysrhythmia competency exam within 72 hours of signing; failure after 3 attempts results in cancellation
  • Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment
  • Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required prior to start
  • Must complete Respiratory Safety questionnaire via designated platform prior to start (cost $22)
  • On-site fit test requires clean-shaven face unless approved accommodation is provided
  • Must comply with facility-specific policies on latex allergy screening and other health questionnaires

  • Time off requests must be submitted and approved before offer
  • Candidates may be required to complete additional facility-specific training and attestations prior to start

Pros

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. She helped me with onboarding and getting used to the timesheet app and she answers my texts promptly, even after hours. She is a great recruiter liason. Gladys was a super helpful with onboarding and Denise will hook you up with benefits with no trouble at all. Great team to work with.

Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
