Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse - Neuro (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Neuro-focused Medical Surgical unit.
  • Patient diagnoses include CVA (stroke), TIA, AMS, and general medical conditions.
  • Care for patients with neuro-specific diagnoses such as neuro-trauma, neurosurgery, stroke, and Neuro-PIN.
  • Patient ratio typically ranges from 1:5 to 1:6.
  • Unit involves neuro surgeries and specialized neuro patient care.
  • Strong proficiency with Epic electronic health record system is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with recent Med Surg experience within the last year.
  • Experience in neurology, trauma, and neurosurgery nursing.
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
  • Proficiency and experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 60 days of start.
  • Education verification of highest degree.
  • Missouri state-specific electronic data license (MO EDL) search.
  • Two professional references required.
  • Employment application required.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest x-ray within 5 years and TB questionnaire within 1 year.
  • Annual TB questionnaire regardless of TB status.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved mask models).
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required if applicable (within 10 years).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Sept 1 – Mar 31) or approved exemption.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.

Additional Requirements

  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge.
  • Completion of facility-specific e-learning modules prior to start.
  • Acknowledgement of Epic Pass/Fail testing.
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Color blindness testing (online acceptable).
  • Core HIPAA and compliance testing for subcontractors.

Notes

  • Block scheduling accommodations will be attempted.
  • 75-mile radius rule applies for travel.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.

This role is ideal for experienced neuro medical-surgical RNs comfortable with night shifts and specialized neuro patient care in a travel/contract setting.
