Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ED)
Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Emergency Department (ED)
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Total Hours per Week: 36
- Must be willing to float as needed based on skillset and manager discretion
- Locals within a 50-mile radius of Saratoga Springs are not accepted
- Facility may call off up to 3 shifts per contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Telemetry experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Experience with triage and Level 1 trauma cases
Health & Safety Requirements
- Flu vaccine required by December 5th, 2024 (medical or religious exemptions must be approved at least 2 weeks prior to start; approved exemptions require mask wearing in patient-facing areas)
- Negative 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold test within 1 year of start (T-spot tests not accepted)
- Negative chest X-ray if past positive PPD, dated within 1 year of employment
- 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (specific LabCorp panel required)
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including completion of a "TSH Medical History" form at physical
- N95 fit test (quantitative test only for 3M 1870 mask accepted) and OSHA questionnaire
- Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test (can be completed onsite)
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (New York State mandated for all RNs)
Testing & Competency Requirements
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Must complete advanced EKG/ECG competency exam within 72 hours of contract signing (90% passing score required; 3 attempts max with remediation support)
- Must review facility-specific ECG study guide prior to start
Documentation & Onboarding
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) required
- Passport-style photo for badge (plain background, head and shoulders visible, no hats or sunglasses)
- Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches as applicable
- FCRA Authorization Release form must be signed prior to start
- Lift assessment (minimum 10-25 lbs depending on position) completed during Occupational Health appointment
- Completion of virtual general orientation and clinical testing modules via Healthstream by 7 a.m. Wednesday prior to start date
- Two professional references required (within 2 years of start) for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles
Additional Notes
- Minimal return-to-office (RTO) time: 7 days or less
- Flu season may extend until NYS Department of Health declares it over or vaccine expires (potentially into June)
- Facility enforces strict local radius restrictions by county; candidates residing in specified counties are not eligible for new contracts
- Candidates must be prepared for a rigorous onboarding process including multiple certifications, testing, and health screenings
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses who meet the licensure and certification requirements and are willing to work a travel contract outside of the local area.
