ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00–7:00)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday; 40 hours can be approved for time off after the first 2 weeks; no return to office (RTO) approved during first 2 weeks; block scheduling not guaranteed
Job Description
- Float pool role covering various ICU and intermediate care units including:
- Medical ICU
- Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU
- Coronary Care Unit
- Surgical Trauma ICU (Level 1)
- Neuro & Neurosurgery ICU
- Critical Care and Intermediate Care Special Pathogens Unit (COVID)
- Thoracic Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit
- Surgical Trauma Intermediate Unit
- Neuro & Neurosurgery Intermediate Unit
- ED Boarders (patients admitted but boarding in ED prior to room assignment)
- Must adhere to the facility’s float policy
- Epic electronic health record experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Critical Care Float experience within the last year
- Experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) settings
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Valid Driver's License
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions allowed)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with 2-step PPD within required timeframes; Qgold acceptable, Tspot not accepted
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted for measles
- Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required; if low/negative, additional antigen titer required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but will not hold clearance
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually during flu season (no exemptions)
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
Background and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
- Background checks include criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and abuse registry search if assigned to behavioral health or specific units
- Fingerprinting required for behavioral health and certain units; must be completed prior to start
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually
- Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
Additional Facility Requirements
- Review and initial professional appearance guidelines
- Complete release authorization and TB screening forms prior to start
- Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if needed
- Latex allergy questionnaire required if applicable
Notes
- No return to office (RTO) allowed during first 2 weeks of assignment
- Scheduling flexibility limited; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Candidate must be able to work nights and float across multiple critical care units
- Facility uses Epic EHR system
This position is ideal for experienced ICU Registered Nurses comfortable with floating across multiple critical care units during night shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
