NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:30 - 08:00)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Floating: May be required to float to Post Partum unit
  • On-call: Not required
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling with manager approval to balance days

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in NICU
  • Minimum years of experience: 1 year of NICU experience within the last year
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Employment application/resume including licensure, certifications, education, and employment history
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Skills checklist updated annually as applicable
  • Physical exam completed by a physician, updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit mask testing within one year, updated annually (3M 1860, 1870+, Aura 9502 masks accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or declination form)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines, booster if low/equivocal titer (no declinations)
    • Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines, booster if low/equivocal titer (medical/religious declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination form
  • Drug screening: 9-panel within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
  • COVID-19: Full vaccination required prior to start; booster preferred but not required; medical/religious exemptions subject to approval with facility-specific forms
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (9/16 - 4/30), with medical/religious exemptions accepted subject to approval
  • Additional health documents as applicable (CBC, eye exam, color blind exam)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates self-schedule shifts within a defined period; manager finalizes schedule
  • Parking is the responsibility of the traveler; public transit options available nearby
  • No on-call duties required
  • Must complete facility-specific forms such as position description acknowledgement and various exemption/declination forms if applicable

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital NICU with a defined night shift schedule and a supportive staffing ratio. Compliance with extensive credentialing, immunization, and background requirements is mandatory prior to start.
